EcoTrek in Nepal
January 29, 2014 · by Adam Jones · in Asia, Weekly Trips
Nepal is best known for its stunning nature and hospitable population. Tourists flock here from all over the world between the months of October to December to visit Himalayan villages and hike among-st the amazing wilderness and isolated sanctuaries dotting the landscape. The 60 million year old Mount Everest first discovered by Sir George Everest in 1841, 8848 meters high, and is the star attraction bringing thousands of people to its ice peaks in the Mahalangur area of the Himalayas every year.
It can be hard finding the right way to travel in Nepal and though there are numerous volunteer programs, often this can be a scam business. Here at WeekAdvisor, we have searched high and low about how best to do an Ecotrek in Nepal in order to gain a lifetime experience while also respecting the environment and contributing to local conservation.
Dolma tours is one tour companies operating in Nepal that pledges 100% to ecotourism and seeks to provide the best experience for both visitor & village. They have a wide variety of fun tours all over Nepal, including hikes on Mount Everast.
From their site: At Dolma, We provide both financing and advice to local projects and businesses that have a positive social and environmental impact in their DNA. and we reinvest any returns into education and other support for our partner communities. In this way our capital is essentially recycled and used multiple times for good.
This is fundamental to anyone wanting to leave a positive impact on their next trip to Nepal. By choosing a company like Dolma over your average run-of-the-mill tour group – you can be assured of their pledge to stay ‘green’ while providing a once in a lifetime experience.
Another company official recognized by the Lonely Planet travel brand is EcoTrek Nepal. Besides being recognized as an official trekking group with high standards of ecotravel, their experiences are peppered with stops at local teashops and small lodges in order to interact with locals. Packages vary from 4 to 16 days all over Nepal with an emphasis on cultural experiences.
