If one was of a superstitious nature then the sleepless Saturday night, the 6.00am alarm call, and the wet and windy conditions that greeted us on arrival in Gothenburg early on Sunday morning on the 17th of July last, may have been seen to be portents for what would be a less than memorable and not too enjoyable week of mentoring the Salthill Devon Under 16s in the Gothia World Youth Cup. What followed during that week however, was one of the most amazing, uplifting and truly enjoyable weeks of my life.

Irish U19s qualify for semi-finals
The Republic of Ireland qualified for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship semi-finals after securing the runners-up spot in Group A thanks to a goalless draw with eliminated hosts Romania. Former Salthill Devon player Joe Shaughnessy played the full game for the Irish.

Devon comprehensively topped their group with a classy performance against their American counterparts with a 4 goal blitz in the first half with Conor Barry, Joe Gaughan, Dillon Murphy and Ben Murphy getting amongst the goals.

Salthill Devon defeated Ranaoke All Stars 5 nil in their second game in the Gothia Cup to top their group. Goal scorers were Ben Murphy(2), Joe Gaughan, Conor Barry and Dillion Murphy. Unfortunately their 3rd game was a walkover from Eskilsminnie IF. Salthill Devon now move into the knockout stages of the Cup.

Gothia Cup Update - Day 2
Last Night, the squad attended the Stadium Neu Ullevi for the opening ceremony and what an event it truly was. Over 50,000 people from 73 difffernt countries participated in this majestic event with the focus on "Fairplay" and "LOVE".
In section Q1 on the upper tier, the Irish bellowed out the fields of Athenry ably assisted by a group of Norwegians and Germans. The Irish delegation was a club from Dundalk who acknowledgedd the tricolour in its glory as the Irish were offically welcomed to the tournament.
Back to the football, Devon play today at 4pm local time against USA outfit, Ranaoke All Stars. This game will determine the group winners. Alex Byrne is out injured for this game but remains in high spirits.

A blustery overcast day in Listowel saw the Salthill Devon U14 Girls looking to take the next step in retaining their National cup title. The Listowel Celtic pitch surface was top class and set the stage for a quality match.

Gothia Cup - Group 5: Salthill Devon 2-0 FC Neu munster Zurich
Salthill Devon U-16s kicked off thier Gothia Cup tournament in style with a comprehensive 2-0 victory with goals from Joe Gaughan and Conor Barry respectively. Devon started with a 4-5-1 formation, with Chris Healy in goals, and a back four of Sean Lally, Garbhann Malone, Cormac Raftery and Diarmuid Fadden. Wide left was man of the match, Ben Murphy with Joe Gaughan wide right and the centre midfield trio of Alex Byrne, Conor Barry and Joe Gaughan with Dillon Murphy leading the line in attack.

Longford Town recorded their second win on the bounce with a 88th minute strike by young midfielder Craig Walsh at a windswept Drom to defeat Salthill Devon on Saturday night.
Devon, who competed well in this scrappy, yet entertaining affair will feel deflated after a late defensive error allowed Longford to snatch all three points.

Jason Lyons - International Ascessment
Congratulations to Salthill Devon Striker, Jason Lyons on advancing to the last 24 of the Irish International Ascessment. He will attend two further trials this Saturday the 9th of July and the following Saturday the 16th of July. From this a squad of 18 will be picked to travel to Scotland with six players remaining on stand bye. We wish Jason the best of luck.
Ireland’s select 18 prepare for UEFA U19 Championship finals
The Republic of Ireland U19 international players to contest the final tournament of the UEFA Championship 2011 in Bucharest, Romania, include Bray Wanderers striker Conor Murphy, one of three goalscorers in the marvellous win over Italy in the qualifying programme. Former Salthill Devon and current Aberdeen player Joe Shaughnessy is in the squad.

Gaynor Cup 2011
Congratulations to Shaunagh Jackson and Laura Carroll as they played for Connacht in the U18's Gaynor Cup. It was a great to become the 2011 Under 18 Champions. Shaunagh Jackson then had to leave to play with the Galway Minor ladies in their Connacht final against Roscommon which they also won 8-13 to 2-9. Well done.

4 Salthill U-15 Players invited for Irish Assessment
Four of Salthill Devon’s Under 15 National Final squad have been invited for Irish Trial Assessments. Dillon Murphy, Alex Byrne, Conor Barry and Jason Lyons attended last Saturday at the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh and all 4 are due to attend again this Saturday for a second assessment.
The first trial went well for all 4 lads with 3 of them getting on the score sheet. Indeed Salthill Devon along with Crumlin and Cherry Orchard boast the highest number of trailists per club. Let us hope that the lads continue in their development and make the step up to the next stage of the assessment process.
3 of the 4 Devon trialists have benefitted from high quality training by stepping up with the Salthill Devon Airtricity Team in recent weeks and this experience will stand them in good stead.
Indeed, no rest for this group of players as preparation for the Gothia Cup in Sweden commences tomorrow week with pre tournament training and prior to that will be the first round of trials for next seasons FAI Emerging Talent Centres.
Salthill Devon Under 19 Trials
Salthill Devon under 19s have been invited to take part in the League of Ireland Elite division for the season 2011/12.
Donal Murray has been appointed manager the squad, which will be coached by Mike Quirke. Trials will be held at Drom on Thursday the 23rd of June at 8.00pm and Saturday the 25th of June, at 2.00pm.
New players are particularly welcome to come and try out for place in the League squad. You are Under 19 if you were born on or after the 1st of January 1993.
Salthill Devon/Coerver Coaching Soccer Camp
The Salthill Devon/Coerver Coaching Soccer Camp will take place this summer from July 18th – 22nd from 10am to 2pm each day. Application forms are available at the club. For more information please call Anthony at 087 949 6293.
Salthill Devon F.C Golf AM-AM 2011
Salthill Devon is pleased to announce that annual Salthill Devon Golf AM-AM 2011 will be held at Oughterard Golf Club Friday June 24th 2011. Cost of entry for a team is €180 with the winning team to be presented the Padraig Morahan Memorial Trophy.

FAI Summer Soccer Schools
FAI Summer Soccer Schools - the only official Summer Soccer Schools of the Football Association of Ireland and the most fun-filled and action packed summer camps in Ireland.
The 2011 Summer Soccer Schools will start in Drom on Monday 11th July. Coaches are UEFA and FAI qualified including Stephen Lally (Galway FA Development Officer), Colm Horgan (Irish U17 International), Ger Hanley (Irish U21 International) and Nigel Keady (FAI Emerging Talent).

Galway drew nil all with North Dublin in the semi finals of the Kennedy Cup, but unfortunately lost 4 - 3 on penalties.

Galway defeated Kilkenny 1 nil to reach the Semi Finals of the Kennedy Cup on Wednesday. Salthill Devon's Kevin Horgan pulled of 2 great saves in the last 5 minutes to help the Galway men secure victory. Tomorrow they face North Dublin.

In what was a highly entertaining U:14 All Ireland Final organised by The Lions Club, between two kingpins of underage football , it was the greater skill and physicality of the well organised Galway side that were deserved winners over a brave and luckless Limavaddy.

A good day for Galway in the Kennedy Cup. This morning they defeated Clare 5-1 and this afternoon they beat Mayo 2 nil. That means they top their group and progress to the knock out stages.

Galway got off to a flying start at the Kennedy Cup with a great 5 nil victory over WWEC. Salthill Devon's Mikey Costello was on the score sheet for the Tribesmen.
Irish Cup Quarter final: Illies Celtic 1(2) - 1(3) Salthill Devon
The Salthill Devon U14 Girls Squad travelled to Illies Celtic (Inishowen, Donegal) for the Irish Cup Quarter final in an effort to retain their Irish cup title from 2010. The managing team of Richie Walsh & Sean og Dunleavy recognised the mammoth task having watch the Inishowen league win the Gaynor cup (National leagues) just the weekend before with 6 squad members from Illies celtic who performed well through the tournament.

U12s clicnh League Title
Salthill Devon clinched the U12 league title with a comfortable win over Hibs at Crestwood last evening. Hibs needed a win to force a play-off whereas a draw was good enough for Salthill.

Ireland’s select 18 prepare for UEFA U19 Championship finals
The Republic of Ireland U19 international players to contest the final tournament of the UEFA Championship 2011 in Bucharest, Romania, include Bray Wanderers striker Conor Murphy, one of three goalscorers in the marvellous win over Italy in the qualifying programme. Former Salthill Devon and current Aberdeen player Joe Shaughnessy is in the squad.

Gaynor Cup 2011
Congratulations to Shaunagh Jackson and Laura Carroll as they played for Connacht in the U18's Gaynor Cup. It was a great to become the 2011 Under 18 Champions. Shaunagh Jackson then had to leave to play with the Galway Minor ladies in their Connacht final against Roscommon which they also won 8-13 to 2-9. Well done.

4 Salthill U-15 Players invited for Irish Assessment
Four of Salthill Devon’s Under 15 National Final squad have been invited for Irish Trial Assessments. Dillon Murphy, Alex Byrne, Conor Barry and Jason Lyons attended last Saturday at the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh and all 4 are due to attend again this Saturday for a second assessment.
The first trial went well for all 4 lads with 3 of them getting on the score sheet. Indeed Salthill Devon along with Crumlin and Cherry Orchard boast the highest number of trailists per club. Let us hope that the lads continue in their development and make the step up to the next stage of the assessment process.
3 of the 4 Devon trialists have benefitted from high quality training by stepping up with the Salthill Devon Airtricity Team in recent weeks and this experience will stand them in good stead.
Indeed, no rest for this group of players as preparation for the Gothia Cup in Sweden commences tomorrow week with pre tournament training and prior to that will be the first round of trials for next seasons FAI Emerging Talent Centres.
Salthill Devon Under 19 Trials
Salthill Devon under 19s have been invited to take part in the League of Ireland Elite division for the season 2011/12.
Donal Murray has been appointed manager the squad, which will be coached by Mike Quirke. Trials will be held at Drom on Thursday the 23rd of June at 8.00pm and Saturday the 25th of June, at 2.00pm.
New players are particularly welcome to come and try out for place in the League squad. You are Under 19 if you were born on or after the 1st of January 1993.
Salthill Devon/Coerver Coaching Soccer Camp
The Salthill Devon/Coerver Coaching Soccer Camp will take place this summer from July 18th – 22nd from 10am to 2pm each day. Application forms are available at the club. For more information please call Anthony at 087 949 6293.

Salthill Devon is pleased to announce that annual Salthill Devon Golf AM-AM 2011 will be held at Oughterard Golf Club Friday June 24th 2011. Cost of entry for a team is €180 with the winning team to be presented the Padraig Morahan Memorial Trophy.

FAI Summer Soccer Schools
FAI Summer Soccer Schools - the only official Summer Soccer Schools of the Football Association of Ireland and the most fun-filled and action packed summer camps in Ireland.
The 2011 Summer Soccer Schools will start in Drom on Monday 11th July. Coaches are UEFA and FAI qualified including Stephen Lally (Galway FA Development Officer), Colm Horgan (Irish U17 International), Ger Hanley (Irish U21 International) and Nigel Keady (FAI Emerging Talent).

Galway drew nil all with North Dublin in the semi finals of the Kennedy Cup, but unfortunately lost 4 - 3 on penalties.

Galway qualify for Kennedy Cup Semi Finals
Galway defeated Kilkenny 1 nil to reach the Semi Finals of the Kennedy Cup on Wednesday. Salthill Devon's Kevin Horgan pulled of 2 great saves in the last 5 minutes to help the Galway men secure victory. Tomorrow they face North Dublin.

In what was a highly entertaining U:14 All Ireland Final organised by The Lions Club, between two kingpins of underage football , it was the greater skill and physicality of the well organised Galway side that were deserved winners over a brave and luckless Limavaddy.

Kennedy Cup Update
A good day for Galway in the Kennedy Cup. This morning they defeated Clare 5-1 and this afternoon they beat Mayo 2 nil. That means they top their group and progress to the knock out stages.

Galway got off to a flying start at the Kennedy Cup with a great 5 nil victory over WWEC. Salthill Devon's Mikey Costello was on the score sheet for the Tribesmen.
Irish Cup Quarter final: Illies Celtic 1(2) - 1(3) Salthill Devon
The Salthill Devon U14 Girls Squad travelled to Illies Celtic (Inishowen, Donegal) for the Irish Cup Quarter final in an effort to retain their Irish cup title from 2010. The managing team of Richie Walsh & Sean og Dunleavy recognised the mammoth task having watch the Inishowen league win the Gaynor cup (National leagues) just the weekend before with 6 squad members from Illies celtic who performed well through the tournament.

U12s clicnh League Title
Salthill Devon clinched the U12 league title with a comfortable win over Hibs at Crestwood last evening. Hibs needed a win to force a play-off whereas a draw was good enough for Salthill.

Salthill Devon have been awarded a place in the Elite Division of the new National U19 League scheduled to commence on 28th August. It will be a two round league.
